"Thanks for allowing myself, Luke Donald, and Pat Goss (Luke's Coach) the courtesy of your fantastic course on the friday before the Open Championship. I can honestly say it was one of my favourite courses i have ever played, and we all had a great time that day. It was the first time Luke had arrived early to an Open, and playing your demanding, but fair course i think really put him in good stead to have his best Open finish ever (tied 5th)"

Club description

Western Gailes occupies a place in the affections of Scottish golfers.  It represents to the true golfer and connoisseur of the game something approaching the ideal in golf.

True, there are more severe golfing tests; there are courses with longer and more renowned histories; there may even be courses better groomed than Western; there are more palatial clubhouses, though surely none with so handsome a view; and there may be courses with more eminent players and, possibly though improbably, a more forthcoming and friendly membership.  But few have so many of the good things of golf as Western Gailes, both course and club.

Location: Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland
Year founded: 1897
Courses: Western Gailes, 6899 yards

Club Overview

Signature Holes

Hole #7 - 197 yards par 3

From the high tee overlooking the beach the hole is set out invitingly before you in a hollow in the dunes. But the smallish green, one which is awkward to putt on because of its rolling indentations and mounds, is difficult to hit and hold, especially if the wind is coming from a north westerly direction.
